Just the Kitchens

Taylor and Dana wanted to golf one of the days we were there so we were happy to just take the true Kitchens and go explore.  We first did some souvenir shopping and then went to explore La Forteleza San Felipe in Puerto Plata.  Christopher Columbus landed here before he ever set foot in the United States and this is where the first slaves were traded in the Americas.  The tour has been upgraded and there are now headsets in English and lots of artifacts on display instead of just sitting out.

Apparently this was common, if the fortress wall was breached, now the intruders had to cross a through a field of exposed lava rocks which was quite treacherous while being shot at of course.

The fort was neat to see and then all my dad wanted to do was walk along the beach.  So we did... lots.  Random statue of Poseidon on an island.

We came back to the house for dinner that night because we'd asked our housekeeper to make "la bandera" for us.  This is THE traditional meal of Dominicans.  It's so traditional that you can't get it in a restaurant.  Everyone makes it themselves so why would you ever need to go to a restaurant to get it.  Truthfully this is the regular lunch meal with rice, black beans, chicken cooked in oil, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, ensalada mixta, and fried ripe plantains.  It was like heaven.

I LOVED being back in the constant on and off rain.  I love the heat there and that just when it's getting too hot to enjoy, the sky opens and the rain literally pours down in sheets.  And then it stops and is sunny again.
These are some of the shots of the golf course Taylor and Dana played.
