Thursday

We got in at 7am on Thursday and made it through customs pretty quickly. Luckily the customs agent had a sense of humor when he asked who Ethan was and he (in a bad mood since he'd been awake for 18 straight hours) stuck out his tongue at him. Taylor and I both agreed we want to add "cheers" and "brilliant" to our vocabulary since the British use them so much.
We got to our hotel (as we were unloading the bags Isaac discovered shiny rocks in a flower pot and decided he should throw them at the glass doors of the hotel- lovely!) and crashed for almost 8 hours before getting up and showering and getting ready for the day (what was left of it at least). Taylor went and rented us a car and came back laughing. His question: "Why would you ever give a brand new car with just 10 kilometers on it to an American who is asking for FULL coverage on the insurance?" He turned out to be pretty good at driving on the left side of the road except when entering and exiting round-abouts which are pretty tricky anyways. To add to the difficulty, it was a stick-shift car so he had to figure out how to turn with his right hand while shifting with the left and all while staying in the left lane and going round circles every 100 feet or so.
Thursday night we left our 3 kids with Esther's older brother David while we went through the temple with her and her brother Glen to receive their endowments. We were really glad to be there for them and it was a really neat experience to be their escorts. I'm not sure it was as great an experience for David the babysitter. He looked seriously frazzled when we got back. I guess 3 kids, 2 rather hyper from being cooped up in a plane all Wednesday and then sleeping all Thursday and all being stuck in a small hotel room with no cartoons and very few toys makes for a rough evening. He was such a good sport about it though and we were so appreciative.
Thursday night was a little rough with all 3 kids waking up at different times and Ethan moaning for 2 hours straight but we survived. It's funny how adrenaline kicks in when you need it to.
