Timpanogas Cave

We actually tried to do Timp cave on Wednesday but the wait time was several hours.  So Thursday bright and early (we let Ethan skip his last day of school again- half day I should say) we were up and down to American Fork Canyon.  To get to the cave you have to hike 1 1/2 miles almost straight up the mountain over 1100 feet.  It's quite intense.  So much so that my mom helped motivate Ethan and Isaac while I dragged/pushed Miles the last 1/2 and my dad carried Isla in the pack the whole way.  Isla didn't mind that.  Grandpa was a great tour guide as usual.
There were several of these amazingly carved tunnels to walk through.
And finally at the top we put on jackets we'd carried the entire way up.  It was in the 90's at the bottom and much cooler at the top and really cold inside the caves.
This was our National Parks guide and she was quite entertaining as you can tell since she got off to a roaring start by giving my dad a mustache he's only ever dreamed of having.  Apparently the guy who discovered the cave had a mustache like that so she's holding his picture and luckily has the braid to demonstrate it.
The formations inside the cave are quite amazing and the tour takes almost a full hour.
It was hard to get a good picture in the dim lighting but really fun to see.

And then we were back outside in time to see a rattlesnake just off the trail.  Glad we weren't a few minutes earlier.
It's REALLY high up there.  I made us stop to take a perspective picture.
Isla sacked out big time on the way down.
And the boys appreciated going downhill instead of up.  All in all a great outing even though it was a bit more strenuous than some of us had planned.
