Our ward hosts a neighborhood block party every August. The best part of this is that we live on a rather busy main street in town while the rest of the neighborhood is really quiet and the result of this is that they never hold the block party on our block so we never have to be in charge of it- or so we thought. Seriously, we say this every year as we're leaving the fabulous over the top party, thank goodness we never have to plan those. Unfortunately they roped us and our neighbors in this year so we had to help out. It was actually a lot of fun planning and prepping and we'll happily do it again... in 8 or 10 years!
The chosen theme was a spanish fiesta. So of course there had to be pinatas for the kids. Isaac gives it a pretty good whack!
Miles went with the one-hand approach.
And Ethan went with the eyes closed baseball swing.
I love how nice summer evenings are in Utah. It was in the 90's during the day while we were setting up, but just beautiful at 6pm sitting in the shade.
Look how fabulous the food spread turned out and it was yumee!
Here's 3 of our cute primary girls we teach. Love them!
The best part of the evening for the kids is all the fun activities. Ethan spent hours at the dunk tank trying to dunk other primary kids. Thankfully he isn't quite brave enough to climb in himself so he stayed mostly dry.
The biggest draw for the kids was the giant slide. It was sheer chaos. One of the parents went up with her 2 year old and came down and said she felt like it was Lord of the Flies up there. That's Isaac there coming down.
One of our cute young women took Miles up and down.
And after that he decided he was big enough to do it on his own and amazingly he did.
It was huge!
Thankfully I was able to convince him to stay in the bounce house most of the night while the big boys danced and sang with the live band.
A fabulous night and well worth the months of planning and hours of setup/take down that day.
