As I was picking out excursions for our family on the trip, there were mostly ones that were good for the whole family, but then some had age restrictions. Thankfully Taylor was happy to have a "daddy-daughter" day in Costa Rica so I could take the 3 boys on an adventure. He first took her to get her hair done, then to lunch with Barb and Clint. The highlight? Finding money on the floor of the restaurant.
Meanwhile the boys and I rode off on a bus into the rainforest, where the guide was very excited to have the bus driver slam on the brakes so he could jump out into the underbrush and bring in poisonous red tree frogs. Lovely!
Then it was into the top of the rainforest for ziplining! All dressed and ready to go!
Isaac demonstrating how to brake. This was very important to him. He is my most timid child and Taylor had to both bride and threaten him to get him to even come along with me.
See the ear to ear grin plastered on Ethan's face? That ones excited.
It was actually pretty hilarious. Everyone else in our group was a teenager or adult so they could hop up a little for them to hook on their line. My boys of course were way to short so our bus guide had to pick them each up.
Can't wait!
Wahooey!!!
This one too with the grin!
But not so much for Isaac. He spent a good amount of time talking to the guides to make sure it was all safe.
There's my half smile, but really I'm mad at you for making me do this and I'm pretty sure I'm going to die or hate this.
But of course he "somewhat" liked it. Not as much as Ethan or Miles, but not so bad. As we waited on the next platform we noticed giant ants crawling around on the ropes and trees. Apparently these are bullet ants, yep, the size of bullets and also almost as painful as being shot, apparently.
After the zipline we got to tour around the rainforest and see many more animals.
And in case there weren't enough ziplining pics here's the professional ones:
Miles was good entertainment for everyone. His favorite thing was to flip his legs into the air, hang upside down and scream like a girl.
This plant was a favorite too. You touch the leaf and it curls in on itself.
Back on board we joined everyone for dinner. Miles and Aria are pretty cute together and of course everyone wants to sit beside her because she's got an ipod.
After dinner the kids went back to the kids center for a party and we went out to watch The Martian on the big pool TV. Unfortunately it was off and on raining. Luckily there were piles and piles of just dried pool towels to cover every inch of us. And this is what my kiddos looked like after their pirate party. No wonder they love the kids center!
And then a few books to wind down from our fantastically fun day.
