Our Roman Holiday

Taylor's cousin is a professor in Germany and he's been wanting to visit him for almost a year.  Unfortunately as much as we tried to get our schedules to work with his, it just didn't in the end.  But since we had my mom scheduled to babysit, we decided to plan an adventure anyway.
Taylor has always wanted to go to Rome and it sounded lovely to me.
On the advice of a friend we booked a tiny bed and breakfast (read just 2 rooms) right in the heart of Rome.  The view from our window was just perfect.

Although we were jet lagged we went out for a walk to get the lay of the land and also to keep ourselves awake long enough to adjust to the time difference.  This here (the white columns amongst the brick) is bizarrely where Julius Caesar was killed.
So much history it's bizarre.  I love Taylor's expression.  Like huh? really? right there?  Luckily we had a good guide book and some apps that teach history as you walk.

Mingling at the Campo d' Fiori.
Everywhere you look in Rome there's another giant cathedral.  All gorgeous, all ornate, all amazing and hard to remember their names.  This is Sant'Agnese in Agony.
The fountains at Piazza Navona.
The Pantheon.
One thing we learned in Rome was that outside of every great church there is always a super tall obelisk.  Usually proportionally tall to fit the grandness of the church.

The Trevi Fountain
And the insane crowds to go along with the gorgeous fountain.
Headed back to our quaint little home.
This was pretty hilarious.  The entrance to our building was through this tiny wooden door.  Of course more could be opened if you were moving in furniture or bags but it was quite entertaining to watch Taylor squeeze through each day.
And even though it was our first day of course we had to stop for gelato.  Or maybe because it was our first day.
The first church we went in Sant'Agnes in Agony.
The inlaid marble floors were just amazing.
And the painted, gold leafed ceilings were just as impressive.  In truth it was almost dizzying looking at everything.

And this was just the first church we saw on our first day.
I love the way gelato is treated like decadent jewelry here.  And I can't wait to eat it every day of our trip.
