Last year for Labor Day weekend we joined a big group of our neighbors on a campout in Flaming Gorge. While boating we noticed this amazing group campsite with a dock and pavilion and thought it looked amazing so we jumped online and booked it.
Can we just say perfection in the form of a long weekend camping with some of our dearest friends. Most of these pictures are from others who spotted my kids off doing their things with their friends. Sneaky Isaac waiting to ambush someone with his nerf bow and arrow.
Miles out exploring with someone else's dog. He'd really like his own but I'm just not an animal person.
Isla drying off after another dip in the lake.
Hanging out on the dock in between boat rides.
Most of Saturday was spent either out on a boat riding, water skiing, and tubing or playing on the dock waiting for people to come in.
It was gorgeous.
Sunday morning we just hung around the campsite since no one wanted to go out on boats. While we chatted as adults, the kids explored and then discovered small crawdads in the lake right around the dock. They then spent HOURS trying to figure out how to catch one. Finally some child had the brilliant idea to use a piece of dental floss and tie and pie of leftover breakfast ham to it. Then they simply lowered it into the water close to a crawdad and once it had grabbed on, it refused to let go and they just pulled him right out of the water. The kid's cheer was probably heard all the way across the lake. Success! And then of course everyone need to catch their own. So a bucket was soon found and more than 2 dozen were quickly caught. And then what to do with them (besides of course chasing little girls around camp)?
Into a big pot of boiling water they go.
And then it's time to feast, or at least work for the little bit of meat on these guys. Taylor was instrumental at this point as he considers himself very adept at picking every little bit of meat out of crabs and enjoys it too.
Isla and the other little girls mostly ignored these events but did enjoy the hot chocolate.
Monday it was back out onto the water for lots of water skiing. And cliff diving of course.
Oops.. pictures out of order. We actually came a day early so that our family could have a day to ourselves to enjoy camping. Taylor rented a jet ski which worked for a total of 2 hours the first day and then promptly died and wasted more than 15 more hours that weekend with Taylor trying to fix it and driving to get a new battery and other parts. Bummer!
Hanging out with just our family was very peaceful.
Catching bugs was awesome too.
And really, who cares how dirty you get when you're camping, although this may be a record.
Such a fantastic weekend! Can't wait for next year!
