Since Taylor couldn't take any time off the week my parents were here, we mostly stayed close to home so we could still spend evenings with him. But there were 2 hikes I have been dieing to go on for several months so even though Taylor couldn't join us until late Friday night, we packed up and drove 3 hours south. Utah is famous for its amazing slot canyons and even though the weather was going to be in the 90's, I figured this would work since it's mostly shaded because of the steep walls.
Off we headed. I didn't research well enough and didn't realize we'd have a 1 1/2 mile hike just to get to the entrance to the slot canyon.
Not that my kids minded. They wanted to stop and climb each and every rock on or near the path. Which meant frequent water stops, but who minds that?Nature-made playground for little boys.
Eventually the walls got closer together and it was nice to be in the shade.
Look at how amazing it is. So close, so windy. Nature is breathtaking.
And luckily there's just one entrance and one exit- no side canyons, cause those little boys were GONE. Racing through the tunnel was just too much fun and it was so windy I couldn't see them unless they were 10 feet or less in front of me.
Grandpa is the perfect tour guide as always and lucky Isla, the canyon was even too narrow in parts for her to stay in the backpack carrier so she got to be held- and feel things with her hands AND feet.
She couldn't help but reach out and touch, the walls were that close.
But eventually we realized we were running low on water (and still had the 1 1/2 hike out afterwards) so we turned around and headed back. Next time I'm going to be better prepared (and not come in June in the afternoon when it's 90 degrees and only bring a few water bottles) so we can hike the whole canyon and follow the other loop out.
These boys are ready to go back!
