The next morning we awoke to a very surprising and joyful sound- RAIN! It hasn't rained here for 6 weeks and the state is getting so dry that at church we were specifically asked to pray for rain to help with all the fires. So it worked- and amazingly didn't mess up anyone's 4th of July plans either.
We hadn't been expecting any rain during the reunion so we quickly switched plans around and headed down to BYU. We all met at their Natural History Museum (who knew they had one- and right next to the stadium too) where we got a guided tour from my sister-in-law's cousin who works there.
Here's Ethan who was truly flabbergasted to hear our guide say that this large dinosaur is actually a baby. Being boys of course we had to try to stick our heads inside the dino skulls to make sure we could actually be eaten by them.
And since we were VIP with a guide, we got to follow her back into the work area with actual paleontologist instead of just watching them through the glass.
We even got to do a little work ourselves with this little drill.
Everyone got a turn... even those that needed to be lifted up.
I said everyone right? Even Taylor (holding the sleeping baby) couldn't resist getting in on the action.
After the museum it was off to J-Dawgs for hotdogs and then since it was still pouring rain everyone went their separate ways. Some to visit old professors. Some to walk campus. Some to eat ice cream at the creamery. And for those of us who live just an hour away and come down rather often during football season, we went to find the dryest, most kid friendly place around- yet that'd be U Mall. It seems Dinosaurs were the theme of the day as the kids now got to climb on, run around, and play with more dinosaur bones.
After everyone had their fill of BYU we drove home by way of Kennecott Copper Mine- okay so it was WAY out of the way but well worth the time. I was in the car nursing Isla at this point. Apparently the wind and rainy weather prompted my children to hide in their shirts. Kinda wish Taylor had taken a close-up.
And after a short visit inside the museum we were off again. Back to our house for dinner, more toys from the grandma box, playing with cousins in the basement, adults watching G-rated comedians on Netflix and just good family hanging out time.
