When we were growing up, my family always planned vacations around outdoor activities. We loved it and I think it helped my parents afford trips with 6 kids. Somerset, PA seems like a middle-of-nowhere kind of place but it was surrounded by lots of amazing outdoor activities. So one day we all ventured off to visit Laurel Caverns. Just had to get a shot of all the grandkids together plus a few husbands to make sure no one fell off the big rock.
L to R Fred with Evan, Nathan, Ian with Dana behind, Ammon, Ethan, Isaac, Grandpa Pat, Madeline, Noah, Nathan, Dave, and Claire. Missing are Joseph and Robert. Anyone else think we need a few more girls???
Inside while we waited for our tour to begin, we got to pan for gold.
Thankfully there were lots of extra hands to help me since Taylor hadn't arrived yet. Ethan was good and stayed with the group but Isaac was in rare form and wouldn't stop running around. He got passed around several people before Dave finally had to stick him in a backpack carrier to contain him and then he screamed and cried so much begging to come to me (of course being 7 months pregnant and in a slippery, muddy cave going up and down stairs and hills I couldn't carry him) so finally I had to leave him at the back of the group with Dave and hide every time they caught up to us.
I think Ethan was more impressed with being with the cousins than that we were inside the Earth. Oh well, one day he'll be impressed with nature. For now Noah is pretty cool.
Our attempt at getting all the grandkids together for a picture failed. And Isaac is still begging to be let free.
After the caves we found a park with slides and grass for playing baseball and found a Pizza Hut. Tragically between the windy roads of Pennsylvania, our families propensity for motion sickness, and a merry-go-round at the park, no less than 3 kids didn't keep their pizza down very long. Nasty!
